Technical Documentation Writer (Deployment)
You will create and maintain documentation on deployment processes, best practices, architecture, and how-to guides, to enable our enterprise audience to successfully deploy Weaviate in production.
About Weaviate
Weaviate is an AI startup with open source and creativity at its core. Our AI-native vector database uses machine learning to create meaningful insights from unstructured data in a completely new way. Named one of Forbes’ Top 50 AI startups, and with over a million monthly downloads, Weaviate is quickly growing in popularity with developers and enterprises alike.
Our team members work remotely across the globe with the flexibility to work from anywhere and at any time. Our people experience this as a massive benefit! Operating with a strong sense of ownership and collaboration, our teams prioritize results while empowering each individual to do their best work.
About this role
Weaviate (the database) is growing fast, with new innovative features and use cases arriving on a weekly basis. But any software product is as good as its documentation, which is an integral part of the product’s developer experience.
We are looking for an experienced technical documentation writer – with experience in DevOps or a similar technical role – to help us document the deployment processes, best practices, architecture, and how-to guides, to enable our enterprise audience to successfully deploy Weaviate in production.
This role is part of a small Education/Docs team, which sits under Developer Relations.
This is a perfect opportunity for someone who takes pride and satisfaction from producing high-quality work day-in and day-out. But they would also look into the future, dare to think big, and shake up the status quo for a better solution.
This role goes beyond documenting the deployment processes. As part of this role, you will become an expert in deploying Weaviate and running it at scale with cloud hyperscalers like AWS and GCP.
Ultimately, we have a single goal: “Provide the best developer experience possible for both new and existing Weaviate developers.”
This is what you’ll be doing
- Develop clear and comprehensive educational resources to help enterprise users scope, deploy, and run Weaviate in production, both in their own cloud environments and using Weaviate Cloud.
- “Walk the walk” - learn hands-on before creating educational materials.
- Stay abreast of enterprise AI trends and collaborate with Sales, Customer Experience, and Support to identify documentation needs.
- Collaborate with Weaviate engineers to understand deployment processes and best practices.
- Create step-by-step guides, troubleshooting materials, and architecture diagrams for Weaviate enterprise deployments.
- Ensure documentation meets enterprise IT standards and security requirements.
- Maintain and update documentation as Weaviate evolves.
What we are looking for
- 3+ years of professional technical writing experience, preferably in enterprise software.
- Familiarity with databases, and programming languages like Python and Go(lang).
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, State of the Art monitoring like Grafana, and Datadog.
- Experience working with at least one Cloud hyper-scaler like AWS or GCP and their services like EKS, GKE, EBS, Cloud Storage, S3, Cloud Logs, CloudWatch, ELB, etc.
- Experience with documentation tools and version control systems.
- You have an interest in everything related to Search, AI, and ML.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to understand and explain complex technical concepts.
- You take ownership, are resourceful, and can navigate across teams and stakeholders to gather input and expertise needed to deliver documents.
- You are aligned with our company values.
Bonus points for:
- Experience in DevOps or a similar technical role.
- AWS Certified – Cloud Practitioner or Solutions Architect.
- Google Cloud Certified – Associate Cloud Engineer or Professional Cloud Architect.
- Experience running live technical training sessions.
What we offer
- 100% remote with flexible work hours.
- Competitive compensation, including flexible time off.
- Budget available to spend on going to conferences, co-working space, home office equipment, etc.
- Work with very experienced and fun team members.
- An atmosphere that encourages learning and personal growth, and that gives you lots of freedom, flexibility, and responsibilities.
